So I believe this post comes perfectly in time , I absolutely hate technology seriously it’s the worst thing ever since macaroni and cheese , I wish people still relied on their imagination and when I mean people I mean children It seems In today’s society children only rely on their technology and not their imagination, in order to have fun instead of playing in a cardboard box children instead want to play on their Wii game counsel, I think the promotion of having children play outside and not coming inside until its dark outside . The fact that children need to have fun with technology makes me feel sad as a though they were robbed of a true childhood
if parents helped promote children relying less and less on technology more I believe a children would benefit alot more
Okay so the most controversial topic yet for class this week was ………..PORNOGRAPHY !, its funny because when I think of pornography I think of when I was senior in high school and I had an accounting class and we had to log on the computer to complete our graphs and as soon as I logged popups for Viagra , two girls one guy , one girl one guy starting popping up uncontrollably and I was completely embarrassed , the fact the entire back row saw my scandalous screen , I couldn’t believe that anyone watched porn and needed it at all hours especially at school. But as we talked about in class and the film I suddenly had a little bit of sympathy for both the viewers and the actual porn performers.I think I stated before another blog post people are entitled to do what they want if it makes them happy , but sometimes is it really worth it ?
So this week we discussed marketing in children programming, and I began to look up some children marketing and one of the searches that crossed my search box was Disney secret messages and I thought oh so the rumors were true so I decided to check it out and see what secret was exactly in the messages, I was completely appalled when I saw some of the messages not only are they extremely sexual but also very racist. I used to watch Disney when I was younger and watching these characters and these story lines it makes me wonder through these secret messages were they trying to promote how they wanted us to grow up?, To grow up and become sex crazed racist teenagers , It really makes me furious that no one has brought this to anyone’s attention, I would rather have a clean version of the little mermaid than seeing a disgusting secret message show up and it also goes to show that sex really does sell and people will do anything to sell sex , JUST PLAIN DISGUSTING !
This week we discussed the show Sex and the city and as an avid longtime fan Carrie & Co you can imagine how I felt discussing the fabulous writer’s lifestyle and her addiction to shoes. For those not familiar with the series Sex and the city follows four girls names Carrie , Miranda, Charlotte and Miranda and we watch the escapades unfolds on their journey to find happiness, love and in Samantha’s case good sex. And watching these women I couldn’t help but praise them for showing such strong female power, Regardless If anyone got married or experienced heartbreak, the girls were there for each other and it almost looked as though they were part of their own special club. Even though some viewers weren’t too keen on the uncensored sex, there were still avid fans of the friendship between the girls .
As Samantha said in the second movie Men, Babies, come in our lives but we are still soul mates and I think that quote perfectly defines their friendships. If girls could have friends like these women they would be extremely lucky. I hope the sex franchise never dies
Today in class we talked about the television show "The Girls Next Door”, for those who don't know about the show it basically follows the three girlfriends of Hugh Hefner, Bridget and Kendra who are girlfriends # 2 and 3 and Holly who is Hef's number one girlfriend, and it shows what happens in the daily life of a playboy bunny.
You see the girls go to a lot of red carpet premieres or go on photo shoots, and of course spending time with Hef while watching a movie. And while many viewers tune in week by week you expect its guys that tune in to watch these beautiful girls, but surprisingly it’s not Men its women who tune in each week.
It’s very surprising to me that most of the viewers are women, it’s not a secret that females judge other females and since the girls are very open about their sexuality, you would instantly “expect for the negative comments of “How could they just pose naked in front of a camera? Or" are they complete whores ".
But personally for me , instead of saying negative things about them and being very catty , I don't really see the point , If Holly , Bridget and Kendra want to pose for playboy , I believe it's their right , they don't seem like terrible people, just comfortable with sexuality and why must
Negative critics always ask the same question, why would you ever do that? , If posing for playboy made the three girls happy then I'm glad they stuck it out because even though many people have their opinions on the girls good or bad, they still have to live with their decisions
I’m really glad the girls didn’t allow anyone to change them , for what they wanted to do in life
So I tried upload and my other blogpost before and it didn't work so I hope it works now
Also during this week we talked about plastic surgery and I couldn't help but think about Heidi Montag, When people first heard Heidi's name some people didn't know her unless you watched Laguna Beach or The Hills on MTV back in the day, otherwise you would have no idea who Heidi was , fast forward 4 years later and everyone pretty much knows Heidi but not for the right reasons.....
It's pretty shocking still now to see her look like this , but I think she is one of the top examples to show that plastic surgery is not glamorous at all in fact Heidi has stated that she can't even talk loudly because of the intense surgeries. The face that people use plastic surgery for the wrong reasons and later on regretting it definitely shows that plastic surgery is a very serious issue and should be used very carefully and awareness should more broadcasted to state that if someone would like to get plastic surgery to consider the consequences because they could be dangerous.
This week we discussed brides in the media and how brides want to be absolutely perfect on their wedding day and are willing to do anything in order to get what they want , this instantly made me think about the show called Bridezillas. Bridezillas is a show that is shown on WE TV network and it follows a bride around days before her ceremony and basically while she is being filmed the entire time she is portrayed as a CRAZY psycho lunatic ( just to put it lightly ) , but as I'm watching these brides and watching their stories unfold I noticed the common line being said by all the brides is " This is the most important day of my life, nothing can go wrong ". But with that much pressure on just one day is it really worth it ? is the stress and over extra accessories really worth it or the fact that a bride can say I spent 60,000 dollars on my wedding day is really what it's about , I think media has definitely changed views of weddings and showing that it's okay to be overly extravagant and people would rather know how money you spent on your wedding cake instead of what vows you will recite to your husband. It brings the questions to mind I Do want to get married Do I ? or just avoid all the complications and just elope in Vegas......
I was so excited when I found out we were discussing about the Housewives , now I do not watch Desperate Housewives but I love the reality television show housewives especially , The Real Housewives Franchise and I think this blog is perfect timing because lately I have been Housewife crazy ! , I have been obsessing over The Real Housewives since the beginning the series , seeing these fresh new housewives is very refreshing and instead of seeing them portraying a traditional lifestyle ,by greeting their husbands and having dinner waiting , instead you see the wives going on shopping sprees , Loading up on plastic surgery and being very catty. I believe that seeing wives show that they have some Independence , has definitely proven that housewives have definitely changed from the 50's . And The Housewives Franchise are now evolving and promoting Independence showing that it's okay to be very independent and have self owned businesses and even promoting that a wife doesn't have to be dependent on her husband and have to stay married to him but also even saying that it's okay to have a divorce and its not shameful , It's amazing how the life style that was shown over 50 years ago of a traditional housewife is so different from what is portrayed today as the traditional housewife and is broadcast weekly on national television on the East and West coast.
During class this week we watched a film that followed the inside background of professional wrestling, otherwise known as WWE smack down to many ..As I watched the film I thought I knew what was always shown on WWE, a typical obnoxious guy would appear in the loud stadium and strutting themselves down a catwalk in tiny short shorts, while loud rock music and firework explosions follow their every step. I wonder how a guy can simply enjoy this without feeling a sense of being uncomfortable.
It reminds me of all the times in middle school when a guy did something that was portrayed as "gay" they would immediately shout ”No Homo"! When meant that no homosexual activity was going on.And even back then when I didn’t fully understand about gays or lesbians it’s amazing how in professional wrestling you could roll around all sweaty with a guy and parade around in short shorts and it’s the most masculine thing in the world, yet in middle school or even the real world if a guy gives another guy a hug or says that he loves him he immediately says "No Homo".
What's the difference I understand its pure entertainment but how can you be entertained? Some of the skits on the WWE program make you wonder why am I watching this? I seriously don't understand how some of the females on the show who were the portrayed girlfriends and the wives of the wrestlers would listen and obey a man who wore tiny short shorts and wrestle around with a guy as his career.
As I watched the show I know it’s my personal opinion but it definitely makes you think maybe I'm just over thinking this or should change my channel immediately?
p.s. oh yeah did you know Vince McMahon was fired ?
In our class today we began to watch the film called "Class Dismissed” which gave a basic overview of how social class and working class were portrayed in the television shows throughout the 1950’s to the present decade.
The film began by showing basic background of how society views the different working classes. Many families who were classified as working class would see products advertised on TV and would purchase them so that can be portrayed as middle class and that would make them feel happier and carefree. In addition throughout the film I noticed that social class was not as highly recognized as in working class. In the film during the early decades if you presented yourself a certain way then people assumed you were middle class or higher. But in today’s society it’s not about what you know but who you know, in other words "status".
A prime example of status in social class is the television show "Gossip Girl". Gossip Girl is a fantastic teen drama that shows how important class and status is New York City. Even though the television show is about teens it also depicts how society plays a major role in class. The teens in this show have different social background although theyall attend the same school and interact with each other.
In conclusion status is not based on race, color, or age I feel as though status will evolve will become much bigger as the years progress on.
